New Year's Day fireworks in Lewes

February

Ruby turned 7 on the 16th. She had a party at the Royal Oak; a magician turned up to entertain the kids.

April/May:

Went to Australia for three weeks, plus a stopover in Singapore

July

We went to an outdoor production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" at Hever Castle

August

Ruby spends a week in Norwich during summer holidays with friends

September

Steve's brothers' band "The Kondoms" did a concert in Barcombe Village Hall to raise money for
Barcombe Bonfire Society . Despite the low turnout, it raised a couple of hundred pounds - mainly due to Alan Cannings' capacity for pints of Harvey's! After receiving several complaints about the noise, doubts were raised about how feasible it would be to put the band on for Steve's fortieth birthday party in the same hall.

October

On the 12th large parts of Lewes flooded. Barcombe escaped the worst of it, although the cellar of the Royal Oak was full of water. Julia Black, who lives on Spithurst Road, had to be evacuated by tractor and then lifeboat as she went into labour! The RNLI men asked Steve to go with them up the brook to her house in the dinghy, but he bottled out. Julia was rumoured to have called her baby Noah.

We visited the Millennium Dome at Greenwich. We thought there wouldn't be many people there - but so did the rest of the country - record crowds went all week - well, it was half term - we should have known better!

November

Bonfire Night in Lewes (4th) and Barcombe (11th). Both events were in danger of cancellation because of the prevailing weather conditions, but went ahead in the end. Ruby won second prize in her class at Barcombe for her Cavalier costume.
